Architectural Design. Project 1

Putting ideas in places.

SUBMISSION SCHEDULE


The information below describes the activities and material you should have prepared and have

available for discussion throughout significant stages of our ‘putting ideas in places’ project. This

Information should be read in conjunction with the project brief issued to you on Tuesday 21st

September, week 1.

WEEK 2 Tuesday / Wednesday tutorials.

Activities: You will have identified your,

▪ ‘journey’,

▪ ‘journey part’,

▪ ‘journey part’ associated external and internal public spaces,

▪ your experiences and observations along your ‘journey part’,

▪ any significant, to you, objects located/found on your ‘journey part’

▪ the territory of your site for your intervention,

▪ proposed purpose of your intervention / factors informing this.

Material: You will have prepared,

▪ marked up plan indicating the route of your ‘journey’ at 1:500,

▪ rendered plan of your ‘journey part’ at 1:100,

▪ plan of the territory of your intervention at 1:50,

▪ a section through the territory of your intervention at 1:50,

▪ images that support/describe your findings and experience.

WEEK 3 Tuesday / Wednesday interim review.

Activities: You will have developed the material described above incorporating design development

from week 2.

Material: You will have prepared revised and developed versions of the above drawings accompanied

by a verbal description of your development to date along with,

▪ provisional choice of 20 images for your pecha kucha presentation.

▪ typed and printed description of your intervention brief to include purpose,

materiality and title. [200 words maximum]

WEEK 4 Tuesday / Wednesday tutorials.

Activities: You will have developed the material described above incorporating design development

from week 3.

Material: You will have prepared revised and developed versions of the above drawings accompanied

by a verbal description of your development to date along with,

▪ final choice of 20 images for your pecha kucha presentation.

▪ narrative content for your pecha kucha presentation. [verbal]

▪ sketch diagram of your final presentation layout.

▪ ‘title’ of your project.

WEEK 5 Tuesday / Wednesday final review.

Activities: You will have developed the material described above incorporating design development

from week 4 and incorporate this into your final presentation requirements as described below.

Material: You will have prepared and located/pinned up by 10:00 am in the location identified for you

in the crit room with co-ordinated drawings on two landscape adjacent A2 sheets,

▪ pecha kucha presentation.

[Please ensure you have a laptop ready to play your presentation. If possible

one laptop with prior uploaded presentations could be used for each

morning / afternoon session.]

▪ annotated plan indicating the route of your ‘journey’ at 1:500,

▪ annotated rendered plan of your ‘journey part’ including your intervention at

1:100,

[you should endeavour to communicate all textures and types of surfaces contained

within your plan. Your intervention should be represented as a conventional ground floor

plan, not a roof plan.]

▪ plan of your intervention at 1:50,

▪ two annotated sections through your intervention at 1:50,

[sections must include textures and types of surfaces contained within the section and

immediate context and be identified on your 1:50intervention plan]

▪ physical model of your intervention at 1:50.

[your model should be made using a single modelling material and include only the

extents of your intervention, no immediate context is to be included. This is purposeful in

being able to identify your intervention as a singular object.]

▪ diagrammatic representation of you design strategy.

General ▪ Work not in place by 10:00 am on Tuesday 19th of October will not be

assessed and will be recorded as a non submission.

▪ You should bring all development material to your tutorials and reviews.

▪ During tutorials and reviews ‘drawing’work will not be viewed on laptops.
