view from the balcony

The view from the balcony of a rented apartment in Malta's Sliema region. It was a fun place to stay, given the proximity of the sea but there are little to no historic buildings left here. Everything has been replaced by apartments that look fairly ordinary. There is also a lot of damage on the buildings with very little restoration and a lot of what appear to be abandoned sites. Plenty of rusted steel frames and nothing else. The historical buildings that are left are empty and crumbling. Mostly just a precarious facade left standing over a carpark. Sounds grim but it really wasn't. The place is alive with tourists and locals alike. All enjoying the sea breeze and restaurants. Just up the road in St. Julian's more care has been taken to preserve the historic buildings which range from roman to neogothic. All overlooking the beautifully picturesque Ballutta Bay peppered with small fishing boats.
